Research Goals 2017-2018
As a developing scholar, I will:
Establish a (tentative) direction for my dissertation
Complete and publish the results of my research study that examines how teachers' use of deficit language positions children as "readers" or "nonreaders" in the classroom

Complete and publish the results of my research study that examines how teachers' use of deficit language positions children as "readers" or "nonreaders" in the classroom
- Publish my manuscript about issues of equity related to preservice teachers' language use when speaking about young readers/writers
- Publish my research study that explores the potential effects of using a web plan format to guide preservice teachers through planning high-quality literacy lessons.
- Use feedback from LRA reviewers to revise and publish a literature review I wrote that examines the relationship between reading children’s literature and the development of perspective-taking skills in K-6 children
- Continue to develop my public-facing digital identity as a scholar through the effective use of social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram
Teaching Goals 2017-2018
As a literacy content coach, I will:
- As a Literacy Content Coach: Collaborate with colleagues in order to become more skillful at facilitating reflective conversations with preservice teachers about literacy teaching experiences
- Increase my involvement in the Urban Teacher Residency Partnership Program in order to support the continued development and effectiveness of the program.
Service Goals 2017-2018
As a collaborative and engaged member of my profession, I will:
- Become more involved at all levels of service
- Continue to mentor first-/second-year teachers in my local community with their literacy instruction
- Assist my program faculty in completing department projects/tasks
