LAE 4424: Teaching Children's Literature: Developing Literary Appreciation, Global Perspectives, and Knowledge of Text Structures Hybrid Course (Online/Face to Face) Summer 2017, 3 credit hours
The purpose of this course is for preservice teachers to (1) develop an understanding of, and appreciation for, children’s literature, (2) to develop effective strategies for selecting high-quality children’s literature, and (3) to acquire effective instructional practices for incorporating high-quality children’s literature into their literacy instruction.
RED 4724: Intermediate Literacies Strategies and Assessment Spring 2017, 3 credit hours
The purpose of this course is for pre-service teachers to understand the developmentally appropriate, research-based theories and practices that support children’s intermediate literacy and language learning. This includes selecting, administering, and interpreting appropriate assessments, incorporating instructional strategies for diverse learners, differentiating instruction to support inclusive practices, and designing literacy instruction that is integrated across content areas.
RED 4312: Emergent Literacies Strategies and Assessment Fall 2016, 3 credit hours

The purpose of this course is for pre-service teachers to (1) identify the traits of children’s written, visual, and media-based products, (2) assess and support children’s developmental progression of writing processes or strategies, and (3) demonstrate effective instructional strategies for teaching multimodal composing across discipline-specific genres.
